Gov. Umahi urges Ndigbo to move enmasse into APC – By Gloria Uchenna

Governor David Nweze Umahi, of Ebonyi state, on Thursday urged the people of the South-East to move enmasse to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the party will serve the interest of the zone better.

Gov. Umahi who spoke at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, the state capital, where he was officially received into APC by the national leadership of the party,  said the zone’s support for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), over the years,  was not appreciated.

Gov. Umahi who was first elected in 2015 on the platform of the PDP, and re-elected in 2019 for a second tenure, said it was, therefore, time to move to another party, the APC.

He added that Ebonyi state had been freed from dictatorship, saying his defection to the APC is a blessing to the state.

Gov. Umahi who defected to the APC alongside his deputy, Dr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, and thousands of supporters, urged the party members not to castigate the National Assembly members from the state who are still in PDP.

According to him, they will join him in the APC after completing their business in PDP.

”I have sacrificed myself for the interest of South-East, and Ebonyi state, in particular.  We have dwelt so much in one political party, and it is time to move to the centre,” said Gov. Umahi.

The event was attended by Governor of Yobe state, who is also Chairman, APC Caretaker/Extra-ordinary National Convention Planning Committee, Mai-Mali Buni, Governor of Niger state, Abubakar Sani Bello, Governor of Kebbi state, Atiku Bagudu, Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General Abubakar Malami, and former Senate President Ken Nnamani.

Handing over the APC flag to Gov. Umahi, Gov. Buni noted that Gov. Umahi and his supporters have officially received into the party.

Gov. Buni commended Gov. Umahi for his developmental strides in the state, and urged him to do justice to all the members of the party across the state.

have started the second phase which is membership across the country.

“Today marks the new beginning in the political history of Ebonyi State. Your Excellency, I know you are a man of justice. You will do justice to all manner of members across all levels of the state from ward, local government to the state level,” said Gov. Buni.

The 15-man State Caretaker Working Committee chaired by Hon. Stanley Okoro was also inaugurated at the event
