Chief Egwu Chima, a former Commissioner for Information and State Orientation in Ebonyi says that Gov Dave Umahi’s defection from the PDP to APC would not add any tonic effect to the party.

Chima, a member of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) stated this in an interview with Summitnews on Wednesday in Abakaliki.

The former commissioner declared that the entrance of the governor to APC would hurt the integrity of the party rather than reinvigorate and enhance its fortunes.

Our correspondent reports that Umahi officially made known his exit from PDP and announced his entry into APC at a press briefing on Tuesday in Abakaliki, ending months of speculations.

According to him, the move was to protest injustice done to the South-East by the PDP which it had supported and voted massively since the return to democracy in 1999.

But, Chima, a chieftain of the APC and one time executive chairman of Afikpo South local government area reacting to the defection said that the governor was on a mission only known to him.

The politician however said that Umahi’s entry has some advantages that the party would tap from.

“If the governor while in PDP has 5000 assistants; now he has joined larger APC controlled federal government, we are likely going to have 10000.

“While in PDP, Umahi’s love for President Muhammadu Buhari was a sing-song though Buhari has lost every election in his polling unit; ward and local government, now he is APC, we are going to win elections in these otherwise weak areas.

“With the governor now in our party, Ebonyi will be counted as an APC controlled state and no longer an opposition in the state and national,” Chima said.

The chieftain insisted that there was no leadership vacuum in APC and that the party was not suffering any leadership inertia adding that Umahi’s claim that he was coming to take over the leadership of the party and reposition it as a ‘farce’.

“The truth is that Umahi has a mission in the APC. This mission is personal, selfish and only known by him.

“Umahi’s entry into APC will see the party losing reciprocity of respect; lack of time consciousness, greater subterranean and nepotic maneuvers as well as despotic and Nebuccadnezzer-like tendencies,” he added.

He said that the complaint among the overwhelming generality of the APC members in Ebonyi was not whether a heavy weight like the governor was entering the party, but the seemingly rat and snake methods he was led into the party.

“This obviously has started generating uneasiness in the party because of the apparent uncertainties; instabilities, possible marginalization, neglect, dishonour and forms of social political malfeasance which his utterances and behaviour portend,”he said.

Chima called on the national leadership and stakeholders of the party including Buhari to meet and address Ebonyi issue with a view to ensuring that party loyalty was not sacrificed on the altar of political egocentrism.
