According to Nweke, the incident happened on Aug 23 in Afikpo, at the home of Chief Tony Ekoh, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi.

The group decried incessant attacks and persecution of journalists in Ebonyi and called for immediate and unfetted investigation into the alleged attack.

The petition read in part: “Following complaint by the victim, we made contact with the suspected mastermind of the attack who admitted being in APC chieftain’s residence on the said date of attack.

” But, on further investigation, he totally denied any knowledge of the attack on the journalist by his boys.

“We also spoke with Chief Tony Ekoh in whose compound the act was perpetrated; he acknowledged the presence of the journalist, the suspect and his ‘boys’ in his compounded.

“Ekoh, however, said nobody notified him when Okah was being attacked.

“We condemn the attack and call on the IGP to carryout a thorough investigation with a view to unmasking the motive of the attack and those behind it in the interest of justice.”
