Mr Felix Azubuike, victim of thuggery in hospital at an undisclosed place in Ebonyi
A middle-aged man, Felix Azubuike, from Ekoli Edda in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi state, has allegedly been beaten by suspected political thugs.
The victim who went into coma following the attack over an alleged facebook post he made is currently hospitalized in an undisclosed hospital in the state.
Our Correspondent gathered that the younger brother to one of the politicians in the area allegedly led a gang of armed thugs to attack the victim over a ‘critical’ facebook post he ostensibly made against his elder brother.
The incident which occured on Thursday, August 20 happened barely three months one Okochi Ikechukwu, a pastor was stripped and beaten to a pulp in Amasiri area of Afikpo North LGA over critical facebook post.
The victim was said to have returned to the village to join his kinsmen to mark the 2020 new yam festival in his community.
He was allegedly accosted at a beer parlor by suspected political thugs said to be working for the politician who is vying for chairmanship of the Council in the fourthcoming August 29 Ebonyi LG election .
The incident has generated wide spread condemnations across the state while some rights groups have called for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
Azubuike whose popular facebook name is ‘Ekoli Edda’ who narrated his ordeal to newsmen on his hospital bed has however denied ever making any negative post against anybody nor the said politician.
He said he spent more than 24 hours in coma before doctors were able to resuscitate him.
He said ‘’it was on Thursday, August 20, I went to my community, Ekoli Edda in Afikpo South LGA for our new yam festival.
“I was at a beer parlor at Ndiuli in Ekoli with my friends; we were celebrating our new yam festival.
“I was sitting and drinking with some of our youths, all of a sudden, I noticed the entrance of one of the suspects,’2020′ a younger brother to one of the chairmanship candidates for Afikpo South Council in the Ebonyi LG poll.
“He approached me and asked me, are you not the Ekoli Edda?
“I said, ‘I am Ekoli Edda.’
“He said good that he had been looking for me; that I was going to pay for the rubbish I had been writing on facebook.
“I asked him which rubbish?
” I was waiting for his response when I felt a watery substance landed on my face; it was a glass of beer in his hand.
“He splashed it on my face and then signaled about five boys with him to start beating me.
“They descended on me with cutlas, clubs and rods; I passed out and I didn’t know what happened again until Saturday when I woke up on a hospital bed.
“They made away with my phones,,necklace, wristwatch and some cash which belonged to my curb.’’
Loveth Odah, the Ebonyi Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), when contacted, said she was yet to be briefed on the matter.
She, however promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of the area for briefing on the incident.
“I’ll get back to you once I make contact with the DPO in charge of the area so that I can be properly briefed on the matter before we can officially make a statement on the matter,” Odah said.
