Ebonyi: Umahi reconstitutes EBBC board, appoints 3 NUJ members -By Reginald Okoro


Gov. Dave Umahi, has approved the reconstitution of the board of the state-owned Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC).

This was contained in a public service announcement signed by Dr. Kenneth Ugbala, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) on behalf of the the governor and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Abakaliki.

According to the release, three members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ebonyi Council – Mr. Felix Uka, of Daily Independent, Mr. Ben Nworie, of This Day and M.r Obinna Ogbonna, of the Leadership newspapers were appointed into the new board.

Other members of the eight-man board include; Chief Emmanuel Offor-Okorie, who is to serve as the board chairman; M.r Christopher Ajali, Mr. Sunny Akagu, Mr Daniel Ogbuzuru as members and Mr. Timothy Nwachi, who will serve as board secretary.

The reconstituted board will be inaugurated on Wednesday, July 1.

SummitNews reports that Offor-Okorie, before the appointment was the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the governo,r while Nworie is the current vice chairman of the state council of NUJ.

Meanwhile, the Correspondent Chapel of NUJ has described the appointment of three of its members as a welcome development, adding that it is putting a round peg in a round hole.

Mr. Jacob Ogodo, Chairman of the chapel in an interview said that the inclusion of three seasoned media professionals in the EBBC Board would reposition the corporation for effective and enhanced service delivery.

According to him, the media experts would assist the state-owned media outfit to develop good radio and television contents that would make the organization the best in the country.

“The appointment is a welcome development; the governor has decided to do the right thing by appointing experts, professionals to govern EBBC as the state media outfit. We commend and congratulate His Excellency for the choice he made.

“If governor should handle every parastatal and institutions of government this way by allowing experts to take charge and become overseers of these parastatals and institutions, our state will become a force to be reckoned with among comity of states.

“I expect that the new board members especially our members will bring in their ingenuity, wealth of experience, professional skills and expertise to bear in their duty in other to transform the corporation,” Ogodo said.
