BREAKING: Obaseki emerges PDP candidate as others withdraw

Governor Godwin Obaseki has emerged as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo state following the stepping down of other aspirants in the race.

It was gathered that Obaseki emerged unopposed few minutes to the commencement of the party primary slated for today after every other contestants, including Kenneth Imasuagbon had announced their withdrawal from the race.

Earlier, the Chairman of PDP Governorship Primary Committee, and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Muhammed had arrived Benin City, for the primary.

Despite the withdrawals earlier in the day, the primary election still went ahead, and was concluded in the early hours of Friday, June 26.

Bala Mohammed explained that the exercise took place in line with the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act, as well as acceptable democratic practices.

Announcing the results, he said that Obaseki polled 1,952 votes, while 72 votes were voided, from a total of 2,020 votes cast.
