Anambra state govt warns politicians against fanning embers of hatred, disunity – By Gloria Uchenna

Gov. Willie Obiano: Promoting academic excellence

Anambra state government on Monday warned politicians from the state to desist from engaging in campaign of hatred and disunity among the people of the state, saying they are one irrespective of their place of residence.

In a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C. Don Adinuba, and made available to SummitNews, the government accused some politicians in the state of politicizing the impressive performance of Anambra state pupils in the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

According to the statement, Agnes Ego Maduafokwa, and David Nwobi, made the best results throughout the country in that examination, saying that the brilliant results are consistent with the tradition of academic excellence which the administration of Governor Willie Obiano, has established in the past five years.

The statement alleged that though the government and people of Anambra state have been rejoicing over this spectacular performance, some politicians and stakeholders from the state have sponsored negative media reports aimed at stopping the ongoing celebration on the basis that the students sat for the examination outside the state.

“This campaign is not only politically motivated but mischievous.  The campaigners are trying to create a dichotomy between our people in the state, and our people outside the state.

“They will not succeed.  Ndi Anambra remains one united and indivisible people.  There is no difference between Ndi Anambra at home and Ndi Anambra outside the state,” the statement said.

According to the statement, “when Dr. Bennet Ifeakandu, a gifted forensic pathologist from Enugwu-ukwu in Njikoka LGA, but based in the United States of America, discovered a disease which he named Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a disease well pronounced among sports people, and has no cure, Gov. Willie Obiano led Ndi Anambra to celebrate him.”

The statement further said that  “if the campaigners against honouring the brilliant Anambra students who excelled in 2020 JAMB examination were not consumed by politics of hate, why didn’t they congratulate Anambra-based school teachers and administrators that won four out of the 24 prizes endowed by the Federal Ministry of Education, the Presidency as well as Nigeria Union of Teachers in a competition held on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Eagle Square in Abuja, and went on to take home two of the four vehicles donated by the federal government to mark the 2019 World Teachers Day?

“Ndi Anambra are justified in their celebration of their children who made the best results in the 2020 JAMB examination.

“Miss Ego Maduafokwa, for one, broke the JAMB examination record by scoring 365 marks out of a maximum of 400.

“It will be wrong to ask her Ihiala LGA people not to honour her because she was born outside the area.”

The statement said all well-meaning Ndi Anambra, as well as all Nigerians supported the decision of the administration of Gov. Obiano to “formally honour the two outstanding students who have brought immense honour to our dear state.”
