Wife of the state Governor, Mrs Rachael Umahi has vows to engage relevant agencies to intervene on well-being and matters concerning children in the state.

Mrs Umahi disclosed this on Monday in her message issued to mark the International Day of African child with theme: “Access to a Child-Friendly Justice System in Africa”.

The Day of the African Child is celebrated every June 16, since 1991, when it was first initiated by Organisation of African Unity, (OAU).

The occasion was aimed at raising consciousness for the situation of children in Africa and the need for continuous improvement in their well-being generally.

She said with the theme, it has become imperative for world leaders to seek justice for the African child.

She added that it would be crucial for leaders to stand firm with one voice in condemning all forms of violence against children in the society, especially on the issue of rape, child Labour and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

“I use this year’s event to pledge my continuous commitments to their well-being.

“And as mother of the state, i promise to seriously engage relevant agencies to interven in their matters,” Mrs Umahi said.

The governor’s wife, requested that parents should show great responsibility to the survival, interest and upbringing of their children.

She further want them to display and spend quality time with the children, especially on COVID-19 pandemic.

She, however applauded the strong dedication of the state government, led by governor David Umahi towards providing needed socio-economic support for children and youths in the state.
