Prof Godswill Obioma
A group, African Students Education Support Initiatives (ASESI) said that the appointment of Prof Godswill Obioma as the Registrar of National Examination Council (NECO) was right decision taken by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The group in a statement signed by Mr Chinonso Obasi its executive director and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Abakaliki commended the president on the appointment adding that the appointment was putting a round peg in a round hole.
It said that Obioma would bring his wealth of experience in education to reposition the examination body.
The group which described the appointment as laudable noted that Buhari would leverage Obioma’s impressive track records in the nation’s education sector as well as his well known anti- corruption lifestyle to overhaul and revamp the NECO body.
he group said Obioma, former Independent National Electoral Commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ebonyi and celebrated Professor of Mathematics has performed very creditably in his previous assignments.

Obasi expressed confidence in the capacity of Obioma who was a one time Executive Secretary, Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) and a director at the Universal Basic Education Commission to turn things around in the agency.
The group explained that Obioma is a specialist in Monitoring, Evaluation, Curriculum Development and Education Management stressing that his choice as NECO boss was one of Buhari’s recent best decisions.
Part of the statement reads:’The African Students Education Support Initiatives wishes to commend Mr President for appointing Prof. Godswill Obioma, former REC in Ebonyi as the new Registrar of NECO.
“We in ASESI believe that the appointment is in order considering Obioma’s track record in the education sector and his excellent performances in his previous appointments.
“It is on records that Obioma performed creditably well when he served as the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Education Research and Development Council and also as Director of Monitoring and Evaluation of the defunct National Primary Education Commission.
“He showcased his prowess as Director, Research and Statistics National Business and Technical Examinations Board and Director, Monitoring and Evaluation at UBEC among others.
“We recall that in 2019 General Elections when he served as the INEC REC of Ebonyi; ASESI was an independent observer in the elections.
” We were amazed by the uncompromising actions of Prof Obioma on issues bordering on complaints before and during the election.
“He is a strong advocate of anti corruption and a progressive to the core.
The National Examination Council is lucky to have Obioma at the helm of affairs in the face of challenges being faced by the Agency.
“His appointment as NECO boss is coming at the right time when issues of financial impropriety are emanating from agency’.
