Gov. Sani Bello obeys court decision
Niger state Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, has sworn-in Safiyanu Yahaya, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the chairman of Magama Local Government Council of the state.
The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS).Mary Noel-Berje, said the exercise which took place at the Government House, Minna, was in obedience to the High Court ruling that quashed the November 30, 2019 election of Salihu Ubandoma, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as chairman of Magama LG Council on the ground of pre-election offence.
The High Court further declared Safiyanu Yahaya, of the PDP, as winner of the election, and ordered the Niger state Independent Electoral Commission, (NSIEC) to withdraw the certificate of return earlier issued to Ubandoma, and issue same to Yahaya as duly elected chairman of Magama LG Council.
Speaking after the brief ceremony, Yahaya described Gov. Sani Bello, as a man of justice who has demonstrated his respect for the rule of law by acting in compliance with the directive of the court.
He said that despite belonging to another political party, the governor took the best decision by respecting the decision of the court and swore him in as the substantive council hairman.
This he added is good omen for the people of Magama and the state at large.
The oaths of office and allegiance were administered by Justice Salisu Alhassan Majidadi, who represented the state Chief Judge.
