A senatorial candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in Imo state during the 2019 general elections, Ndubisi Emenike, was Sunday evening, January, 26 reportedly shot dead by his security aide at a function in the Isiala Mbano LGA of the state.
According to reports, the politician was badly wounded after his security aide, an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), mistakenly fired his rifle at him.
The deceased was said to be one of the major contenders to the Imo North senatorial seat which became vacant following the sudden death last December of the previous occupant, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A source said the politician was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he died after doctors battled in vain to keep him alive.
The incident has been confirmed by the Imo state Police Command.
