Residents of Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra state, in the morning of Friday, October 18, scampered into safety as another fuel tanker reportedly exploded along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway by Bessoy filling station.
According to our correspondent, the incident occurred around Omaba Phase 2.
It was gathered that the tanker was loaded with premium motor spirit, also known as petrol and was said to have fallen on the middle of the road spilling its content which flowed into a drainage.
The report said some residents close to the area where the fuel tanker fell fled their homes over fear of a repetition of a fuel tanker fire incident that occurred barely 48 hours earlier.
At the time of this report, no casualty had been recorded or reported in the incident that was confirmed by the commissioner of police in the state, John Abang.
“This time around the fire service responded well after they were contacted by my men,” the commissioner said.
It will be recalled that a fuel tanker fire that hit the city on Wednesday, claimed the lives two people.
